MORIMARU
Morimaru is the working title for an ongoing project. Morimaru is the Celtic name for the North Sea, roughly translated as the Dead Sea ... there are various interpretations for this naming, ranging from honouring the number of lives lost to these treacherous waters, to lives lost in Doggerland after the Storegga Slides in Scandinavia which lead to a huge tsunami across North Sea nations.
I am interested in both the nature of the North Sea as a dark, imposing body of water, and the lives of those whose lives are deeply affected by time spent in and around the sea. These images show pieces in their raw unfired state ... there is still some distance to travel before completion.
The tallest pieces stand at 70cm, the group together is approximately 120cm wide.
